6 Essentials Before You Create an Online Yoga Course

Ever wondered if you have what it takes to create an online yoga course? Many yogipreneurs believe that online education is a trend that has come and gone with the pandemic. However, this is simply not the truth. The online education space is just getting started and while the pandemic has helped, it’s currently booming as an industry in and of itself.

Nowadays, you can find anything on the internet but an online course is not the same as creating content on Youtube for your audience. The content provided in an online course is different and there is value in how you present your content within a course, in a step by step framework that guides your students to the transformation that they desire.

Online courses make access to knowledge incredibly easy and creating an online course is a great way for you to help your community while taking advantage of the opportunity presented to you within this booming industry. 

You do not need a massive following on Instagram, you do not need to be a master in your course topic and you don’t even need to have your course complete before you launch your online yoga course.  

However, you have to be aware of a few things that are essential for you to actually create and launch an online course. 

Here are the 6 essentials to before creating and launching an online course 

  1. Decide on a niche

Niching down is no longer an optional step within your business in 2022 and beyond. It is essential to make a decision on whom you are here to serve and that you are aware of the problem that you solve. 

Business in and of itself is about solving problems. Your online course is about solving a problem and providing a transformation for your students. Deciding to make a yoga course means that you are dedicated to guiding your students to their desired outcome. And in order to do that you need to decide on a niche so that you are able to know everything that you need to know about your ideal students. 

If you are unaware of this, your marketing won’t work and if your marketing doesn’t work, you won’t be getting any sales. And no sales mean you don’t have a business. 

Know that a niche is not something that you find or look for. Niching down is a decision you make. Figure out what you are good at and exactly whom you are keen to help and you’ve already taken the steps necessary to niche down. 

  1. Engaged community

You don’t need a massive following to launch a yoga course but it is crucial to have some engaged members in your community. There is definitely a massive difference between a large audience and an engaged audience and it is definitely possible to make sales off of a small but engaged audience. 

Social media matters and it’s important to make sure you’re being consistent in creating your free content and nurturing your community and positioning yourself as an expert in your space before you rush to launch your course. 

However, while providing high value content on these platforms can help drive engagement within your community, an email list is what will help you to create the relationships and trust that ultimately leads to sales. So, rather than focusing on building a very large Instagram following, spend your time on efforts on growing your email list and building trust and engagement through nurturing those relationships.

  1. Having some expertise and knowledge in your course topic

Having some expertise doesn’t mean that you have to be the world’s number one expert on the topic. 

It just means that you need to have some knowledge and experience on what you will be helping your students with on your course. 

Creating a course is a learning experience and you will actually learn more about your topic as creating a course will force you to put what you’ve learned onto paper. 

Of course, you need to be passionate, you need to have some experience (like personal experience) and you need some results (whether for yourself or your students) but, you don’t have to know everything there is to know about the topic.

In fact it is impossible for that to be the case but you do have to be a few steps ahead of your audience. One great way to approach this is by asking yourself, what did I wish I knew about my niche/course topic 5 years ago? Chances are, your audience is exactly where you were 5 years ago.

  1. Validate your course idea

Spending your precious time and energy on creating an online course that doesn’t get any sales can be  super disappointing yet, this is a common reality.Usually, this is a result of not validating one’s course idea beforehand. Through validating your course beforehand you can ensure that there is a demand and that your people actually want and need your course.

There are a number of validating strategies including market research and conversions that you can use in order to help you figure out if your course is in demand.

  1. An outline for your course

Outlining your course is crucial to creating a high-quality online course as it helps you to map out the lessons that your student will go through to get to their desired outcome and transformation.

Going through this process helps you to get all of your ideas out of your head, streamline, order your lessons/content and identify what else needs to be included for your students within the course in order to add more value to it. 

  1. Have a launch strategy

A launch strategy is super important yet so many yoga teachers head straight into creating and launching a course without the necessary knowledge on how to plan out their course launch.Most teachers send out an email to their email list, talk about the course a few times on Instagram and wonder why the sales are not coming in. This is not a strategic launch.

A launch strategy includes a pre launch phase and a launch phase and the launch phase has three different phases within. Each of these phases needs to be carefully mapped out to include the type of content and messaging that is relevant for each phase.

Sitting down to formulate a strategic launch strategy will not only give you a content plan to follow, but it’ll also make sure that you’re talking about your course at the right time so that your audience will be ready to enroll when you decide to open doors to your course.
