Shifting Your Mindset from Yoga Teacher to Yogipreneur
Shifting your mindset from being a yoga teacher to a yogipreneur, is key in growing your business and creating a successful online business model.
Cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset will help you succeed in your online yoga business, assisting you to shift gears from the employee mindset to an entrepreneurial mindset.
Then it’s time to shift from a yoga teacher mindset to an online yogipreneur mindset.
There’s something they don’t tell you when you complete your two hundred hours and embark on this journey as a yoga teacher. That cultivating a yogipreneur mindset is everything.
Most like you have an employee mindset which is a very different mindset of an entrepreneur and business owner. When you stay stuck in an employee mindset, you hold yourself back from fully growing and expanding your online yoga business.
That’s exactly how you might be thinking if you currently have the mindset of a yoga teacher who’s relying on studio and drop-in classes to pay the bills.
To become a yogipreneur you need to cultivate a mindset for success by shifting your thinking from being a yoga teacher to a yogipreneur.
When you realise that your mindset is holding you back, you are able to take steps to transform your mindset, release limiting beliefs that are keeping you stuck and limiting your potential to grow your business.
Most likely you became a yoga teacher because yoga changed your life and it’s your mission to share this magical, life-changing experience with others.
What you didn’t realise is that you’d also have to be a business owner. Something that they don’t teach you in your yoga teacher training!
When you cultivate the mindset of a thriving yogipreneur, you embrace the strategies that are required to actually grow your community online and you show up in a much bigger way.
Owning a business is actually 80% mindset and 20% strategy. Those business strategies won’t work unless you have the business mindset to match and to succeed. It’s essential that you shift your mindset to that of a thriving yogipreneur.
What is the state of your mindset right now? Yoga teacher or yogipreneur?
Many teachers believe the reason their business isn’t growing is due to not having enough money. There are also teachers who are afraid to make the transition from their full time job because it’s not the right time or they won’t be able to pay their bills.
The truth is, their mindset is holding them back. Transitioning from employee to entrepreneur is a huge mindset shift.
Quitting your job and starting your own yoga business is only half the battle. You need to prepare to be an entrepreneur, create a plan and prepare your mind.
Your habits dictate your success. If you’re still stuck in that 9-to-5 employee mindset, your business will fail. You must adopt a yogipreneur mindset and start thinking the way the world’s top business owners do. Which means you need to prepare yourself for the realities of being an entrepreneur and make a decision to train your brain to approach things in a different way.
This means opening your mind to new possibilities and being passionate about becoming a yogipreneur. If you’re not passionate and truly connected to your why, you’ll give up.
If you’re clear on your why and know you can help people transform and get results in a specific area of their, then you have a greater chance at success.
Firstly, you need to overcome fear. As a new business owner, you are most likely experiencing fear. Fear of being visible, fear of not feeling ready, or good enough.
Fears never go away. As you grow and level up, new fears arise. The key is to learn how to better manage and control your fears.
One of the best ways to overcome fear is to let fear become your fuel.
Yoga business owners who are successful, experience success not because they have an absence of fear, but because they learn how to manage it.
Fear of failure is very common. Rather than thinking “What if I fail?”, try reframing the question to “What if I don’t try?”. What are you potentially giving up by not trying?
If you aren’t failing in your yoga business, you aren’t trying. And if you aren’t trying, you aren’t succeeding. Acknowledge the fear of failure and then put it aside so that you can focus on building your dream online yoga business.
From a young age we’re told that failure is a bad thing that we should avoid and quite often we’re punished for making mistakes. We view it as something fatal when actually it’s just a part of learning.
When you become a yoga business owner, you must let go of any fears you have about failure, because it’s an integral part of entrepreneurship. You are taking a risk and you’re guaranteed to fail somewhere along the way.
Your course launch may flop. Your students may ask for a refund. You spend money on Facebook ads and fail to convert.
Failure is just feedback about what isn’t working. As long as you learn from it, you’re still making progress.
Another mindset shift in becoming a yogipreneur, is to get comfortable with uncertainty and the feeling of being uncomfortable.
You may not know where your next student will come from or whether your next online course launch will be a success.
There can be a lot of uncertainty in the early days when moving your yoga business online. The reality is you have to get comfortable with uncertainty.
This is the opposite to the employee mindset where you can easily get comfortable in a role where you do the same thing, day in day out.
On the other hand, when you’re your own boss, life can be unpredictable. Be willing to embrace this discomfort, get comfortable with taking risks, trying new things, and at times going against the advice of the people close to you. Learn to trust your instincts.
When you’re starting your bushiness, every job is now your job now. You’re the accountant, IT, marketing, sales, administration etc.
You will wear many different hats, need to constantly learn new skills and work hard.
When you run your own business, you take on a new level of responsibility. The success or failure comes down to you. You’re responsible for making all the big decisions and you need to step up as a leader to promote and build your brand.
You have to take responsibility for your results. This is your business and your results come from your capabilities. If you’re not achieving the results you want, take the time to look at what’s working and not working. Spend time researching your ideal student, hire a coach or mentor. Repackage what you’re offering, tweak your messaging. There’re many things that you can do to turn things around and get better results.
Giving up is one option and that’s not the option that a true yogipreneur takes. A yogipreneur understands that failure is part of running a yoga business, learning from the experience and trying again. They celebrate their wins and successes.
When you’re teaching a 60-minute class at a yoga studio, you’re being paid for your time. When you’re teaching a student one to one, even if it’s online, you’re being paid for your time.
Thriving online yogipreneurs know that in order to build a sustainable and profitable yoga business, they must stop trading their time for money. Instead they sell their results, not their time.
You’re saying goodbye to a weekly or monthly pay check and getting paid for results, not time. This is what can skyrocket your income and expand your online yoga business.
Let’s say you create an online yoga course. You’re selling a result. Your students don’t care how many hours it took you to create the course. As long as your students get the results that you promise, you earn money whenever someone purchases your course.
Students come to you because they have a painful problem that you can eliminate from their lives. You’re not charging by the hour here. That is an employee mindset or yoga teacher mindset. Selling your time for money limits your earning potential. Sell the result you can deliver as that’s what students care about.
The key to shifting your mindset is to connect to your purpose and mission. Have a vision, embrace failure and learn from your mistakes. Act and believe that you have the answers and can solve any problem that you face. Trust your instincts and take responsibility for yourself and your business.
As a business owner, there are no rules, there’s no one to answer to except your students. You create the rules. You’re making the decisions and have the freedom to design your business. So, innovate, experiment and try new things.
Working for yourself also means you need to be your own motivator, stay organized and focused. Be comfortable with hard work and long hours. Especially in the beginning when you’re getting things off the ground and learning.
Remember your attitude is everything. You can’t let challenges get in the way of your dream. Entrepreneurs need to be optimistic and stay focused on their goals. Your passion must drive you.
The good news is you don’t have to do this alone. Seek out a mentor to guide you to help you grow and expand your business.
