Why a clear message is essential to growing your yoga community

It’s so important as a yoga teacher who wants to stand out online that you have a clear message. Your message is what you’re putting out there into the world. It’s what you stand for, it’s your brand and it is what is going to attract ideal students into your community.

Great messaging is: simple, appealing and specific to your ideal students.

In the early stages of your business, it can often be a struggle to come up with a really strong message to describe what you’re offering, particularly if you’re not yet clear on exactly what or who you want to teach. This can have a huge impact on your ability to find new students and grow your yoga community.

Rather than promoting your offerings based on the features, focus on the ideal student who you have designed it for.

It really requires you to understand who you’re serving in order to create a message that appeals to that person and encourages them to take some action. When you get clear on your message everything will fall into place and content creation becomes easy.

Because it’s your message that:

  • Connects with your ideal students
  • Attracts them into your tribe
  • Magnetises them to pay attention to what you have to say
  • Sells your offerings
  • Converts your ideal students to paying students
  • Creates the super students who will come to work with you again and again and tell their friends about you

The power of having a clear message

As you learn to harness the power of your message, self-doubt disappears.

If you find yourself saying things like:

  • ‘I don’t have anything interesting to say…’
  • ‘there’s so much competition…’
  • ‘I barely have any followers…’
  • “there’s nothing special about me…’

You need to work on your message, nail it and harness it!

When you do this, 3 things will happen:

  1. You gain clarity
  2. You gain confidence, and
  3. You gain clients

Clarity, confidence and clients – The three C’s.

Messaging is the foundation for everything, every single piece of communication that you create, whether that’s on social media, on your website, or the live videos you do – anything and everything.

How your message will help you stand out online

Most people are getting this ALL WRONG, which means that getting it right will give you a huge advantage in the busy online space.

As your message becomes clearer, you’ll naturally start to attract your ideal student because you can “speak” to them on the topics that matter most.

Your words start to resonate and cut through the noise to the hearts and minds of our ideal students. In order to get your people to take action and invest their time with you, you must learn HOW to convey that in a way that will compel them to take action.

This is why your messaging is so important.

Without a magnetic message, you get lost amongst the crowd. And if you want to make more money, you have to know HOW to stand out so that you can start filling your classes, retreats and online courses.

How to get your message right

Getting your message right may seem overwhelming but it’s really simple once you know who you are serving.

Put yourself in your people’s shoes and ask yourself:

  • What do they want more than anything?
  • How can you position your offer (free or paid) to meet that need?
  • What is the transformation they are looking for?

Understand that your ideal students are people too, so they’re very emotions-based, it’s human nature.

Your responsibility is to come up with a compelling message that will magnetise them. Touch on their fears, and their worries; use their emotions. Not in a sleazy way – in a “this is how I’ve felt before in my life, too” way. Find a way of sharing your story to demonstrate your empathy, experience and expertise and start to form an emotional connection with your community.

What to include in your messaging

Remember, you want your messaging to be: simple, appealing and specific to your ideal students.

So rather than describing the features (because that doesn’t get people excited), your message needs to get at the heart of the benefits it will bring to their lives.

Ask yourself:

  • What is it that you do?
  • What makes you different and how do you do your business?
  • Why are you brilliant at what you do?
  • Why do you do what you do? Why does it matter?
  • Who are your customers?
  • What is the problem they want to solve?
  • What is the desire and result they are looking for?

This is about getting real clarity around who you serve and why. Once you have that clarity your marketing and the copy that you write can reflect that and have a consistent message.

Consistency is key

You should communicate the same story at every opportunity for as long as it takes to teach, attract and educate your community about your business and your offerings.

It can take a look time for people to truly understand what you do, how you do it and why you do it so you want to sound like a broken record. Repeat the same message across all of your channels.
